Cobb County Water T-shirt Design

This t-shirt design won the Cobb County Water Stewardship Program’s design contest. The goal was to create a shirt for volunteers cleaning local waterways, featuring the Rosa Parks quote, “I set examples by the way I live my life.” The design needed to appeal to both children and adults, as many families participate in the program.

Artist Statement

The purpose of this t-shirt design is to promote best practices for improving water quality in streams throughout Cobb County. The quote by Rosa Parks encourages residents to act as role models by making responsible choices and doing what is right. With a broad target audience of ages 6 to 60, I created a bold, eye-catching illustration that resonates across generations. The design is vibrant and colorful while still maintaining a polished look. The handwritten marker-style font connects well with a younger demographic, yet remains clear and highly legible from a distance. Strong contrast between the typography and imagery further enhances readability.

The background illustration is balanced with soft and sharp visuals. A painterly stream, reflective sunset, and grassy knoll convey a sense of peace and warmth, symbolizing the beauty and harmony of nature when it is protected. Paired with the quote, the imagery reinforces the message of responsibility and stewardship, showing the rewards of caring for the environment.

This bright, fun t-shirt is designed to appeal to volunteers of all ages. Beyond being wearable, it serves as a conversation starter—helping raise awareness of the Cobb County Watershed Stewardship Program and inspiring more community members to get involved.
